Key color

Changes to the key color or the sliders apply when you run the key again.

Background color

Key out the green screen, keep the original sound, and download with no added logo.

Exports MP4 with a solid color, or WebM with transparency. Use the latest desktop Chrome or Edge.

Transparent exports are WebM (VP9 with alpha). They play in Chrome, Edge and Firefox and work as web overlays; some video editors cannot import WebM transparency, so pick a solid color for the widest compatibility.

How it works

How to remove a green screen from video

Three steps in the green screen remover: open the clip, match the key to your green screen, then export.

  1. 01

    Open your green screen clip

Choose or drop an MP4, MOV, or WebM that Chrome or Edge can play, filmed in front of a green or blue screen. Long recordings and large files are fine, and the export keeps the source resolution, frame rate, and sound.

  2. 02

Match the key to the screen

The key starts at pure green, #00FF00. Pick the exact green of your screen with the swatch, set similarity, smoothness, and spill, then press Remove green screen.

  3. 03

    Preview, then export

Check the edges on the transparent checker or on a solid color. A transparent result downloads as WebM, a solid color as MP4, with no watermark added.

Why this tool

A free green screen remover with nothing to unlock

Many online green screen removers cap the length, stamp a logo on the export, or ask for an account before the download. This one does none of that.

Free, with no sign-up

No account, no card, no trial. Remove the green screen and download the result as soon as the key finishes.

No length or file-size cap

A full lesson or an hour-long green screen recording goes through in one run. Time depends on your computer, and saving needs free disk space.

Original resolution and sound

The keyed video keeps the source resolution, frame rate, and audio. It steps down only when the browser's encoder cannot write that size.

No watermark on the export

Nothing is stamped on the result, so the keyed green screen footage is ready for your edit, your page, or your stream.

Use cases

Where a green screen remover earns its place

Use it when the green screen was part of the shoot and you want only the person or the product left.

Presenter and talking-head videos

Swap the studio green screen for a brand color, or keep a transparent layer for a web page, a course, or a later edit.

Lessons and webinars

Teachers who already record in front of a green screen can remove it from a finished lesson and keep the picture and sound, without rebuilding the set.

Stream and slide overlays

Key a host shot on a green screen and lay the transparent WebM over a slide, a layout, or a stream scene.

How the key works

What each green screen setting changes

The green screen remover compares every pixel with the screen color you choose. These four settings decide what is removed and how the edge looks. After changing any of them, run the key again.

Key color

Starts at pure green, #00FF00. Use the swatch to match a darker studio green, a fabric green, or a blue screen. Any single color works.

Similarity

How close a pixel must be to the key color before it is removed. Raise it when patches of green screen remain. Lower it when skin, a logo, or a prop starts to vanish.

Smoothness

The width of the soft edge between the green screen and the subject. A little hides a hard cut. Too much leaves hair and fast motion looking washed out.

Spill

Spill is the green cast that bounces off the screen onto hair, skin, and clothes. The slider pulls that green back toward the other colors. Stop when the edge looks neutral.

Shooting notes

Tips for a cleaner green screen key

Most green screen problems start at the shoot. These habits make a clean edge much easier for the green screen remover to find.

  • Light the green screen evenly. Hot spots, shadows, and folds turn into holes or leftover patches.
  • Keep the subject a few feet in front of the green screen, so less green reflects onto skin and hair.
  • Avoid green clothes and props. Anything close to the key color disappears with the green screen.
  • Use a faster shutter speed when you can. Motion blur mixes the subject with the green of the screen.
  • Fine hair and motion blur can stay partly see-through. That is the limit of any color key, so check those frames in the preview before you export.

No green screen?

No green screen in the shot? Use AI removal

A green screen remover keys out one chosen color, so it needs an evenly colored screen, usually green or blue, behind the subject. Rooms, offices, and streets are what the video background remover is built for.

See Compare green screen keying and AI background removal if you are deciding whether to buy a green screen or skip it.

Already here with a clip that has no green screen? Press “No green screen? Use AI removal” under the tool, and the same video goes through the AI cutout instead. Back to the tool
